About NAWE

HISTORY: My name is Khadijo Abdulkadir. I am a former refugee from the largest refugee camp in Dhadhaab, Kenya. I have spent the last four years helping resettlement agencies, such as Interfaith Works, as well as Refugees and Immigrants Self- Empowerment (RISE).

We created this support group to empower refugee women in central New York. Our program teaches taught our women the skills needed to acquire and retain jobs, earn promotions, assume leadership positions in community organizations, and advocate on behalf of other refugees like ourselves.

Many of the women in the group have been motivated to finish high school and college degrees, and aspire to professional careers previously unavailable to them, like those in the fields of science and technology. Educating these women, who in my experience are the hardest working in our community, will eliminate many of the struggles we face.

We have decided to take this initiative to the next level and form an official 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization so we can raise funds, obtain grants, and continue to build our programs for refugee women in the community.

We believe all women can embrace who they are
,can define their future, and can change the world.

Our Mission

To protect New American Women from hate by empowering them through education, human welfare, health, and advocacy for the youth on how to access the available opportunities.

To empower refugee and immigrant women by providing assistance in meeting their economic, academic and social service needs by creating safe and productive environments in which they can express their ideas and concerns, while learning how to make their daily lives better.

They will develop advocacy skills for themselves and for their children in a multitude of settings (i.e. school systems, legal matters, employment issues, medical situations).

Our Mission

Our Vision

To empower women who have left their native  countries to seek security within the borders of the United States, as the women work to assimilate successfully into American society.

This will be accomplished by creating programs which alter the perceptions these women have of themselves as well as the perceptions society and societal institutions have of them.
